The First 2026 Educational Event

What is Socialism

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Left Coast Forum Hosts Public Education Event on Socialism and the Future of the Working Class

Los Angeles, CA — The political ground is shifting. With self-identified socialists Zohran Mamdani and Katie Wilson newly inaugurated as mayors of New York City and Seattle, socialism is no longer a fringe idea—it is an active force in American political life.

In response to this moment, Left Coast Forum will host a public educational forum titled:

What Is Socialism — and Can It Help the Working Class?

This three-hour in-person program will bring together a broad range of socialist organizations to explain, debate, and demystify what socialism actually means in practice—and what it could deliver for working people in the United States.

Participating organizations include:

  • Freedom Socialist Party

  • Socialist Action

  • Democratic Socialists of America

  • Socialist Equality Party

  • Party for Socialism and Liberation

  • and additional organizations representing diverse socialist traditions

Rather than slogans or soundbites, the forum will focus on substance:
What socialism is, how different socialist currents diverge, what policies they advocate, and how socialism addresses wages, housing, healthcare, labor power, and democratic participation.

“This moment demands clarity,” said organizers. “As socialism enters city halls and public debate, people deserve to hear directly from those advancing these ideas—without caricature, fear-mongering, or corporate filters.”

A Thank You Letter from the Left Coast Forum

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

On behalf of the entire Left Coast Forum organizing team — and our partners at LA Progressive and KBLA Talk 1580 — we want to extend our heartfelt thanks for the invaluable role you played in bringing the 2025 Forum to life.

Whether you volunteered your time to keep things running smoothly, moderated powerful discussions, or sat on panels that challenged, inspired, and educated — your contribution made this convening what it was: a living, breathing example of progressive solidarity in action.

You helped transform a single day on the calendar into something much larger — a gathering of minds and movements determined to build a more just, equitable, and sustainable world. Every conversation, every connection, and every act of generosity moved us closer to that goal.

We know how much energy, preparation, and care went into your participation. Please know that it did not go unnoticed. You made an impact — on the audience, on your peers, and on the broader movement for justice.

We’re already looking ahead to what’s next. The Left Coast Forum isn’t just an event — it’s a growing community, and we hope you’ll continue to walk with us as we expand this work throughout the year.

With gratitude and solidarity,

The Founders of the Left Coast Forum
